UAE Advances 2027–2029 Federal Budget Plan with AI at the Centre of Fiscal Planning
The General Budget Committee reviewed the draft 2027 budget, medium-term revenue and expenditure forecasts and the federal government's 2026 financial position.
The UAE has moved forward with preparations for its 2027 federal budget and the broader 2027–2029 medium-term fiscal cycle, placing artificial intelligence, financial-data analysis and government efficiency among the priorities shaping the next planning period.
The General Budget Committee held its 15th meeting at Qasr Al Watan to discuss the draft federal budget for fiscal year 2027 as part of the three-year budget plan. According to the Ministry of Finance, discussions covered preliminary expenditure estimates and revenue forecasts prepared through coordination between the ministry and federal entities.
The committee also reviewed the federal government’s financial position for 2026 using actual expenditure and revenue recorded during the year to date. The ministry said financial indicators reflected sustained economic activity and progress across UAE economic sectors despite regional and global developments.
The meeting also considered requests from federal entities for funding new strategic projects and reviewed progress on approved capital and development projects completed during 2026. These discussions make the budget process relevant beyond government accounting because federal expenditure can influence infrastructure, public services, procurement, technology programmes and private-sector opportunities.
A central feature of the next strategic cycle is the planned use of artificial intelligence to improve financial planning and analysis. The Ministry of Finance said the approach seeks to use AI to enhance planning and financial-data analysis, simplify procedures, reduce requirements and improve fiscal efficiency across the federal government.
The direction positions the federal budget as more than an annual allocation exercise. Under the 2027–2029 strategic plan, public finance is being treated as an instrument for future readiness, sustainable development, government efficiency and improvements in public services.
The committee’s work follows the approval of the UAE’s 2026 federal general budget, which set estimated revenues and expenditures at AED 92.4 billion each. The new medium-term cycle will determine how federal priorities evolve from that base and how resources are allocated across strategic programmes.
For businesses, the AI component is particularly relevant. Greater use of data-driven planning can affect how government entities assess projects, monitor expenditure and measure performance. It may also create demand for technology, analytics, implementation and advisory capabilities as agencies modernise their financial-management processes.
The committee directed that the procedures required to prepare the draft 2027–2029 federal budget be completed. The final allocations will matter to companies and investors seeking to understand where federal policy, government investment and procurement activity are heading over the next three years.
Why It Matters
The medium-term budget cycle provides businesses and investors with an early indication of federal spending priorities while showing how AI and data are being incorporated into UAE public-finance management.
