Amazon and Ghitha Holding Plan UAE Farm-to-Doorstep Produce Initiative

The companies will explore demand-led crop planning and new packing and distribution infrastructure at Dubai's Food Tech Valley.

Amazon and UAE food and agriculture company Ghitha Holding have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a fresh-produce initiative designed to connect local farming more directly with digital customer demand and rapid delivery.

Ghitha Holding, a subsidiary of 2PointZero Group, plans to combine its agricultural capabilities with demand insights from Amazon. Under the proposed model, crop selection would be informed by customer demand data, with locally grown produce supplied through Amazon Now.

The companies say the initiative is intended to shorten the journey between farm and customer while supporting UAE farmers. The collaboration also includes plans for a new packhouse and distribution centre at Food Tech Valley, Dubai’s government-backed food innovation hub.

The proposed infrastructure is significant because fresh food presents different supply-chain challenges from conventional e-commerce. Produce has limited shelf life, requires careful temperature and quality management and can be affected by fluctuations in demand. Better integration between farming, packing, distribution and consumer data could reduce some of those inefficiencies.

Demand-led crop planning is another notable part of the initiative. Agricultural production traditionally requires farmers to make planting decisions well before final customer demand is known. Using retail data to inform those decisions could help align supply more closely with consumption patterns, although agricultural conditions, seasonality and production economics will remain important factors.

The agreement also includes plans to expand Ghitha Holding’s local brands on Amazon Now. That could provide another digital distribution channel for UAE-produced food products while giving the platform access to a broader local assortment.

The collaboration sits at the intersection of several UAE economic priorities: food security, agricultural technology, logistics, e-commerce and local production. The country has invested in controlled-environment agriculture, food technology and supply-chain infrastructure to improve resilience.

Food Tech Valley was established to support innovation across food production and agricultural technology. Locating the proposed packhouse and distribution facility there would connect the project with a wider ecosystem focused on developing more efficient food systems.

For investors and businesses, the agreement illustrates how digital platforms are moving deeper into physical supply chains. E-commerce growth is increasingly linked with warehousing, last-mile logistics, data analytics and production planning rather than only online storefronts.

The announcement is an MoU and therefore represents planned collaboration rather than confirmation that every proposed facility or operational model has been completed. Execution will determine the eventual scale and commercial impact.

Why It Matters

The collaboration links e-commerce with local agriculture, food security and logistics investment.
