UAE-Jordan Partnership Breaks Ground on US$2.5 Billion Railway Network
The Jordan-UAE Railway Company has started work on a 403-kilometre network designed to strengthen mineral exports, logistics connectivity and long-term economic cooperation between the two countries.

The United Arab Emirates and Jordan have moved a major bilateral infrastructure investment into its construction phase with the groundbreaking of the Aqaba–Al-Shidiyeh–Maan Railway Project.
King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan and Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, witnessed the groundbreaking ceremony in Aqaba on 5 October, according to the Abu Dhabi Media Office.
The project is being developed by the Jordan-UAE Railway Company through joint UAE-Jordanian investment of approximately US$2.5 billion. It includes development of a 403-kilometre railway network, creating a significant new transport corridor linking industrial and mining activity with export infrastructure.
The investment is part of the broader strategic partnership between the UAE and Jordan, with infrastructure, logistics and trade connectivity increasingly forming part of bilateral economic cooperation. The railway is intended to improve the movement of commodities and support Jordan’s mining and export sectors while creating a long-term infrastructure asset backed by cooperation between the two countries.
The groundbreaking is particularly significant because it moves the partnership from planning and agreements into physical project delivery. Rail infrastructure can reduce transport costs for bulk commodities, improve supply-chain predictability and strengthen links between production centres and ports.
For the UAE, the project also illustrates the growing international reach of its infrastructure investment strategy. UAE entities have expanded across ports, logistics, rail, energy and industrial assets in markets spanning the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Such projects can create commercial links beyond the infrastructure asset itself, including opportunities in logistics services, trade finance, engineering and supply-chain development.
The railway project follows earlier cooperation between the two countries to establish the UAE-Jordan Railway Company and develop rail infrastructure connecting mining areas with the Port of Aqaba. The latest announcement confirms that the initiative has entered a new implementation stage.
The development also highlights the role of large infrastructure projects in strengthening bilateral economic relationships. Beyond construction activity, rail networks can influence investment decisions in mining, industrial processing, warehousing and export-oriented businesses by improving access to regional and international markets.
As construction progresses, investors and businesses will be watching project delivery, financing, logistics integration and the development of associated industrial opportunities. The project provides another example of UAE capital and infrastructure expertise being deployed through long-term strategic partnerships in regional markets.
Why It Matters
The project demonstrates how UAE investment is extending into strategic regional infrastructure, potentially creating new trade, logistics, mining and financing opportunities around a major Jordanian export corridor.
